Welcome to Anahata Yoga and Pilates.
I am Vicky Warner and am here to guide you on your path to better health and wellbeing. I started my own journey nearly 30 years ago when I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and a genetic bone condition. After much intensive, conventional treatment which caused more problems than they cured, a wonderful Nutritional Therapist asked if I had tried Yoga. I started by joining an evening class at my local college and fell in love with the practice. The difference it made to not only my body, but also my mind and my outlook was truly transformational and after a couple of years I undertook teacher training with the Yoga for Health Foundation. Their approach was based heavily in Hatha Yoga and yoga practices for people with health conditions – cancer, MS, ME, Rheumatoid and Osteo Arthritis, the list is endless – and this is still the focus of my teaching today. Everyone can practice Yoga!
25 years experience
My Pilates teaching began when I met a retired dancer who had been introduced to the practice through her dance background. She described a method of exercise which felt very familiar to me but with the emphasis more on repetitive movement to achieve strength, tone and flexibility. I have always wanted my teaching to be available to everyone so took my training in Mat Pilates, as no additional equipment is required – just you and your mat! Joseph Pilates created his method to rehabilitate soldiers in the first world war, so again the emphasis in my teaching is on the health benefits of the practice. Everyone can practice Pilates!
When asked which I prefer, Yoga or Pilates, my answer is always, “whichever one I am practicing or teaching at the time!”
